10 Places To Eat In Johor Bahru You Must Try

By: Mymuslimin.com

What is there to do in Johor Bahru? It’s a question that frequently pops up on social media these days, and let us tell you that just one of the best things to do here is going food-hunting! And here are just some of the joints you must try for a delectable culinary experience:

Kacang Pool Haji

Kacang pool is quite simply the breakfast of champions! And Kacang Pool Haji is where you’ll find the best of this dish that originated from the Middle East, but is now recognised as a Johor delicacy. It’s full of thick, savoury goodness and while you’re here, we strongly recommend ordering the lontong kering and mee rebus as well.

Angsana Mall Food Court

It looks like just an ordinary food court, but there’s plenty to explore and taste here. On top of the list is of course the legendary Mee Rebus Haji Wahid, something you can’t miss when in JB. And there’s also the other all-time favourite for many, Rojak Asma which is distinctly different from the mamak rojak and is also known as rojak Singapore.

Nasi Ayam Kee Chup

The “virality” of the place means you should be ready to get into the long queue, and the food might run out by 1.30pm, but it will all be worth it. Everyone gets a juicy piece of chicken thigh here that goes perfectly with the rice, soup and delicious sambal.

Warong Saga

A breakfast joint loved by many since 1986, Saga is as ol’ skool as it gets. As you tuck into favourites like lontong kering, laksa Johor and mee rebus, take a look at the walls that are replete with photos of important people and moments of this state from yesteryears.

Pisang Goreng Mawar

This is not your average pisang goreng joint. Loved by locals and neighbours from across the Causeway alike, Mawar serves up consistently good, crunchy pisang goreng for a few good decades already now. And the secret sauce (literally!), is the accompanying sambal kicap. But over the years, they’ve added more local delicacies to their menu, and their nasi ambang and laksa are definite must-tries.

Tepian Tebrau

Has been around since the 1970’s (albeit at a different location), Tepian Tebrau continues to pack in the people, including both locals and outsiders. There are more than 20 stalls to choose from here, but we recommend you sit near Yong Yong and order the whole spread of sotong kangkung, tauhu bakar, kerang rebus, chili crabs and ikan pari bakar. And don’t forget the ABC and cikong too!

Murtabak Singapura Sg Chat

Another local favourite you must try is this version of murtabak which is different from the mamak variety. And this is the place for a satisfying experience, where they do not skimp on the all-important minced meat!

Selera Senibong Seafood

A seafood place with a view (of Singapore), rustic Kampung Senibong is the perfect place to bring the whole family for a scrumptious dinner. Order the works, including squid, fish, gong gong and crabs, and they will cook for you the best of tiga rasa, stim kicap or goreng tepung.

Banafee Village

More than just a makan place, Banafee is a food “destination”. They have everything here; Middle eastern, Indonesian and a gazillion local cuisine choices. So, what to try for first timers? We recommend you order some otak-otak for starters, then go for the biggie – sup tulang merah! But be prepared for some taste explosion and a rather messy makan experience!

Plaza Larkin

And if you are pressed for time, but you still want to sample the best of Johor cuisine, this food court is the place for you. Mee rebus, asma rojak, briyani, asam pedas and more, everything under one roof!
