To Sekinchan We Go!

By: MyMuslimin.com

Sekinchan is a small coastal fishing town located in the district of Sabak Bernam, Selangor, and is widely known as one of the most fertile rice-growing areas in the country. Thanks to its lush paddy fields, Sekinchan has earned the title of “The Rice Bowl of Selangor.”

Interestingly, the name Sekinchan (适耕庄) literally translates to “suitable for farming” in Chinese. Besides rice, Sekinchan is also famous for its bountiful seafood harvest.

A Bit of History

Among the earliest settlers here were Teochew Chinese communities, many of whom worked as fishermen.

Historically, in 1953, during the height of the Malayan Emergency and the Communist insurgency, the British colonial government implemented the Briggs Plan, which involved relocating rural villagers into new settlements to curb communist influence. Sekinchan was one of the areas affected.

During colonial times, the town was also popular among the British, earning it the nickname “Ang Mo Gang” (literally “Red-Haired People’s Town”).

Why Visit Sekinchan Today?

Sekinchan continues to attract both local and international tourists — and for good reason. The endless green paddy fields, the fresh seafood, and the quaint, rustic charm of the town make it a perfect day-trip or weekend getaway destination.

Located just about 100 km from Kuala Lumpur, it takes around 1.5 hours by car. So… shall we explore Sekinchan with Mymuslimin?

Mymuslimin’s Itinerary

Breakfast at Warung Dimyati – Roti Canai Pelangi

This colourful eatery is located in Kampung Sungai Yu, Kuala Selangor, along the way to Sekinchan — and totally worth the stop!

Warung Dimyati Roti Canai Pelangi serves roti canai that’s soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, but what really makes it special is the rainbow of colours: green, blue, pink, yellow — you name it. We give it a solid 5 stars!

Opening Hours: 7 AM – 12 PM | Closed: Mondays & Fridays

Redang Beach, Sekinchan

With its calm blue skies and sea, Redang Beach offers a peaceful escape for city dwellers.

You’ll find a nearby fishing village, perfect for photo ops with colourful fishing boats docked along the shore. You can also pick up some dried seafood snacks from local vendors.

Opening Hours: All Day

Paddy Field Photography

One of Sekinchan’s biggest draws is, of course, its picturesque paddy fields.

Not everyone can make it all the way to Kedah or Perlis (Malaysia’s traditional rice belts), so Sekinchan is the next best thing.

For the most vibrant green views, visit between March–April or August–September. During the harvest season (around May and November), the green fields turn golden as the rice is gathered — a different kind of beauty!

Boeing 727 at Terminal Sekinchan

Terminal Sekinchan is a standout agro-tourism attraction featuring a retired Boeing 727 aircraft placed dramatically in the middle of Sekinchan’s paddy fields. Installed in Parit 5, the plane has quickly become a popular photo spot, drawing tourists and content creators alike. While the interior is not yet open to the public, plans are underway to turn it into a premium café and event space.

The site gained even more attention during the Sekinchan Paddy Field Festival in April 2025, which attracted over 13,000 visitors. With its striking backdrop and growing buzz, Terminal Sekinchan continues to boost local tourism and is poised to become one of Selangor’s most iconic rural landmarks.

Ah Ma House – Vintage Vibes & Traditional Snacks

Step back in time at Ah Ma House, a vintage-themed house nestled amid the paddy fields.

The house is decorated with traditional furniture, old-school household items, and nostalgic displays — offering a glimpse into the Malaysia of decades past.

They also sell traditional snacks and biscuits, perfect for younger visitors to discover (and for older ones to relive childhood memories).

Opening Hours: 10 AM — 6 PM

Mentarang (Razor Clams) & Fresh Seafood

What is mentarang? It’s a type of razor clam found mainly in the coastal areas of Sekinchan — a local delicacy unique to the region. If you ask the Mymuslimin team, we give a solid thumbs-up to the grilled mentarang, which we enjoyed at Faridah Mentarang Bakar for about RM20 per 400g serving.

Besides the grilled version, you can also try mentarang masak lemak (in spicy coconut gravy) and other delicious variations.

Opening Hours: 10 AM – 5 PM

Legendary Bread at Roti Aman Jaya

Buying bread in Sekinchan? You bet. Opened in 1977, this charming bakery has been serving the community for over 45 years — and it remains the only bread shop in Sekinchan!

Their most popular item is the Aman Jaya Cream Bun (RM1.10). Locals buy them in bulk — some even take home 50 packs or more! Trust us, buying just five is a rookie mistake.

Opening Hours: 10 AM – 6 PM (Closed on Saturdays)

Borhan’s D24 Durian Cendol

If you’re in Sekinchan, you simply must try the famous D24 durian cendol at Cendol Durian Borhan.

A generous bowl comes with soft cendol jelly, red beans, palm sugar syrup, shaved ice, coconut milk, and not one, but two pieces of real D24 durian on top. We were all smiles digging into this indulgent treat.

Classic versions like cendol jagung (with sweet corn) and regular cendol biasa are also available.

Opening Hours: 10 AM – 7 PM (Closed on Fridays)
